The Week Ahead: Davidson

Thursday 1/12 @ Davidson (10-4, 4-0) 7PM: Leaders of North Division and as well unbeaten in SOCON play the Davidson Wildcats are the hottest team in the conference. Currently, the Wildcats have won 3 of their last 4, including SOCON victories last week over UNCG and Georgia Southern.

The Catamounts will have their hands full in Belk Arena with a team that boast 4 players double figures and is the top free throw shooting team in the SOCON.  Davidson scored 90 points twice last week and currently leads the SOCON in scoring at 79ppg. For the Catamounts to come out with a victory they are going to have play their best basketball yet.

Here are the Keys to the Game:

-Limit the fouls: As mentioned earlier the Wildcats shoot their free throws extremely well and they average 23 attempts per game. As well, they make around 81% of their attempts. If the Cats want to win tonight they cannot allow Davidson to make 19 free throws.

-Dial in from deep: Recently, WCU has been making their 3-pointers, more particularly, Keaton Cole has been lights out from three point range as he ranks first in the SOCON making 43% of his attempts. If he can connect tonight and get some help from his teammates the Catamounts can take the W. Speaking of help...

-The Sophomores have to SHINE: Larry Hunter bought in a team changing and program building recruiting class last year. They began blossoming last year and now it is time that they shine. Trey Sumler has to return to his SOCON tournament form, Preston Ross needs to continue to play like the last game, Brandon Boggs has to find his shot again, Tawaski King has to be more dominate in the paint (he has been improving), and Ishmael Hollis needs to continue his current play as of late. Originally, Hollis averages 3.3ppg this season. His average in the last 4 games is 8ppg not including the Wofford match-up. If the Super Soph's shine tonight the Catamounts will walk out of Belk Arena with a win.
