CJ Williams scored 21 points and NC State downed Western Carolina 82-55 in Raleigh on Saturday afternoon.

The Catamounts (7-7) didn't score a bucket until the 14:44 mark in the opening stanza. Despite the lack of scoring WCU was able to trim an NC State lead to 19-13 on back to back 3 pointers from Trey Sumler and Brandon Boggs. However, the Wolfpack responded with a 17-2 run to essentially put the game out of reach.

The rest of the half would not fair any better for the Cats as they shot a dismal 29%. The Wolfpack (10-4) obtained a large lead early by playing good defense and shooting a blazing 61% for the half.

Williams had 15 of his 21 points in the first half to lead the Wolfpack.

Western can attribute the loss to poor offensive efficiency and missed baskets. For the game the Cats shot just 31% and NC State outscored the Cats 34-4 in fast break points.

Keaton Cole was the lone Catamount in double figures for WCU with 12 points, Trey Sumler and Brandon Boggs with 8 apiece, and Mutombo with 7.

NC State had 5 players in double figures with Williams 21 points, Lorenzo Brown 14, CJ Leslie 14,  Scott Wood 11, and Richard Howell, a double-double, with 12 points and 14 boards.

The Catamounts will look to turn things around quickly next Thursday in Socon action when they square off against Chattanooga (6-8, 0-2) in McKenzie Arena. Currently, the Mocs are on a 3 game winning streak. Tip-off is slated for 7pm and fans can listen in on the Catamount Sports Network.
